North Carolina woman indicted in drunk driving crash

If you drive about two and a half hours southeast of Charlotte, you will arrive in Robeson County, North Carolina. The county's biggest city is Lumberton, which is also home to a woman recently indicted on charges of manslaughter and child abuse stemming from a car accident late last year in which she was allegedly driving drunk.

The woman reportedly drove her Volkswagen across the center line of N.C. 711 and into oncoming traffic. It slammed head-on into a car driven by a 39-year-old man, who died of injuries sustained in the violent collision.

The woman's 7-year-old daughter also sustained serious injuries in the Dec. 9 crash, a Robeson County newspaper report states.

The woman was indicted by a grand jury on the following charges: involuntary manslaughter, felony death by vehicle, intentional child abuse inflicting serious physical injury and felony serious injury by vehicle.

After the crash, the woman and her daughter were taken to a nearby hospital, but then flown to Duke Medical Center. The news report states that both were in kept in intensive care for weeks.

The man killed was a banker in Wilson, North Carolina. The article did not state if he has a wife or children, but it did mention that his father is a math professor.

While we have few details of his life, the details of his death are saddening.

For many victims and families of victims of drunk driving accidents, one way to find closure is to pursue justice in wrongful death litigation.
