Bicycle-car accident kills child, driver arrested

In Charlotte and across North Carolina, drivers need to be aware of children on the road. They could be pedestrians, on skateboards, bicycles or scooters. Failing to be vigilant behind the wheel, speeding, driving recklessly, being distracted or driving under the influence can all spark a collision. Children are among the most vulnerable members of society. If a child is hit, it can have severe and even deadly consequences. After an auto accident with a child has occurred, it is important to have legal assistance to consider a wrongful death lawsuit.

A car accident claimed the life of an 11-year-old child as he rode his bicycle. A 19-year-old was arrested on multiple charges. The accident occurred at around 6 p.m. According to the investigation, the child was hit and the driver kept going despite the child hitting the hood and the windshield. He was then thrown off when the driver hit the brake. The bicycle remained under the car as the driver fled the scene. Later that evening, the driver's mother had contacted law enforcement to tell them that her son wanted to surrender. When he did, drug paraphernalia was discovered. It was also found that the vehicle was reported stolen. He is charged with hit-and-run, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving a stolen vehicle.

A fatal accident is always difficult to deal with. When it involves a child, it can be exponentially worse for a family. These accidents can happen for many reasons, but when it is due to a driver being reckless and then fleeing the scene, it is imperative that the family understand what to do next. In the immediate aftermath of a fatal accident, there will be funeral expenses to pay for. Other costs can arise and this will be piled on top of the emotional and personal issues that accompany such a catastrophic event. During that time, the family should know they have rights and must think about the future and receiving compensation.

When there has been a wrongful death, it can be difficult to think about anything other than what happened and how it could have been avoided. A family that has lost a loved one must remember to have legal advice on how to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. It will not bring the loved one back, but it can achieve a semblance of justice for all they have lost and help them to move forward.
