It’s less than an hour’s drive west from Charlotte to the place where America’s underwear is boxed, bagged, stamped and shipped. The HanesBrands Canterbury Distribution Center ships not only Hanes products, but also Playtex and Just My Size items as well to retailers around the nation.
The distribution center recently welcomed North Carolina Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry, who was there to present a Million Hour Safety Award to employees at the facility. The center is celebrating not one, but two million employee hours without on-the-job injuries involving workers needing to take time off.
The Shelby Star reports that the distribution center on the Gaston County side of Kings Mountain has more than 300 workers. Berry noted that in order for them to attain two million hours without injuries, each employee had to be committed to safety.
“This happens because of every single person working here,” Berry said. “Not just one person earned this award, it’s for everybody.”

The newspaper notes that the Canterbury facility is the second Hanes center to be recognized for reaching two million employee hours without injuries. The Cleveland Distribution Center, on the Cleveland County side of Kings Mountain, got similar accolades in February of this year.
The company’s safety awards don’t stop there: its Rural Hall facility about 90 miles north of Charlotte was honored in June for hitting the one-million hours mark.
