Whether you have worked on it or simply seen it, it seems pretty obvious that working on scaffolding can be a very dangerous job. Falling from these structures, even when you are not too far up, can result in some fairly serious injuries, even death. As such, there are specific rules that anyone on scaffolding must follow.

First, never forget that you are in a dangerous work environment, even just 10 feet off the ground. It can be easy to become complacent, which can lead to missteps and falls. Stay wary or your surroundings, and make sure you are always wearing the proper safety equipment for the job. It is also important to make sure that equipment, including ropes, pulleys, harnesses, safety rails and planks are not damaged.

When you are on the scaffolding, be sure to play it safe. Keep two feet on the platform at all times, and do not climb over the railings. If you get the urge to climb or jump between platforms, fight it; this can easily lead to falling. Also be cautious when unloading debris from the scaffolding, as you could easily hit a bystander on the ground.

Those actually on the platform are not the only ones who need to practice good safety procedures. Even if it takes a few extra steps, avoid walking under scaffolding. Also watch out for unstable barrels, boxes and the like. At least one person on the ground should be spotting those up top.

scaffolding accident can cause serious damage to all involved. If you have been involved in a scaffolding fall and are being denied workers’ compensation in North Carolina, be sure to contact an expert Charlotte work injury attorney.
