3 killed in North Carolina reckless driving accident

On Behalf of | Dec 16, 2015 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

A 23-year-old North Carolina woman and her six-month old son were among three who were killed in a two car motor vehicle accident that was caused by reckless driving. In a statement made by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, the incident was caused when a full sized pickup truck passed vehicles in a no-passing lane and struck the small sedan that the woman was driving.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while her infant son died not long after arriving at a local area hospital. Her son was riding in the backseat of the vehicle.

An additional passenger, a 21-year-old male, was also transferred to a local hospital, but died due to the severity of his injuries shortly after.

The driver of the pickup truck was a 17-year-old male. He sustained serious injuries in the accident, but they were considered non-life threatening. The preliminary investigation revealed that this man made the decision to pass traffic in a no-passing zone. He passed several vehicles while traveling at 70 miles per hour. The speed limit was set at only 55 miles per hour.

Both vehicles ran off the road in an attempt to avoid the collision, but the drivers acted simultaneously, colliding anyway. Charges are pending against the 17-year-old driver at this time.

If you or someone that you know has been involved in a serious automobile accident that was cause by the negligence of the other driver, speaking to an experienced attorney could be beneficial to your case.
