Photos speak volumes after a North Carolina drunk driving crash

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. However, the images of two women involved in a recent drunk driving car accident say much more.

One photo is of a smiling 18-year-old North Carolina Central University freshman. She was killed in the crash this past weekend. The other photo is a mug shot of a glum 25-year-old woman with partially closed eyes. She is accused of driving drunk and causing the deadly Durham crash.

The city’s police department says the 25-year-old’s vehicle was going east when it crossed the center line and slammed into a car driven by an 18-year-old Charlotte woman. A passenger in that car — a pre-nursing major from Greenville — died in the crash, law enforcement officials said.

The interim chancellor of North Carolina Central University said, “The sudden passing of a promising young person who was just beginning her journey is indeed heartbreaking.”

He urged everyone to keep her family, friends and classmates in thoughts and prayers as they deal with their grief.

Two passengers in the Charlotte woman’s car were hospitalized with injuries, though the extent of those injuries was not reported.

The woman alleged to be drunk at the time of the crash now faces serious criminal charges.

An area TV news report said “she showed little emotion” at a preliminary hearing.

We do not know what she is thinking or feeling, but we are sure of the devastation experienced by those who love the young woman who lost her life in that senseless crash.
